Trevor Robertson is a contemporary mixed media portrait artist who is based in Houston, TX but also his works spans to New York City. His practice spans oil painting, drawing, and portraiture, united by a sustained inquiry into the interior life: the psychological states that resist easy expression, the fragility that exists beneath composed surfaces, and the way identity, memory, and mortality quietly shape what it means to be human.

Trevor’s formation as an artist reflects both rigorous study and independent inquiry. He trained for two years under Houston-based painter Ryan Baptiste, developing a technical foundation grounded in observation, material handling, and compositional discipline. Alongside this formal mentorship, Trevor pursued an extensive self-directed study of the Western figurative tradition, with particular attention to the luminous idealism of William-Adolphe Bouguereau, the gestural authority of John Singer Sargent, and the symbolic ornamentation of Gustav Klimt. His sensibility extends into the contemporary through an engagement with the work of designer Daniel Roseberry, whose approach to narrative, beauty, and conceptual precision Trevor finds deeply aligned with his own practice.

What connects his bodies of work is not a single subject but a recurring question: what does it cost a person to simply exist within themselves. Whether rendering a figure suspended in dark water or tracing vulnerability through thousands of deliberate marks, Trevor approaches each work as an opportunity to give form to what ordinarily goes unseen. His paintings and drawings ask the viewer to slow down, to sit with discomfort and beauty in equal measure, and to recognize something of themselves in the stillness he renders.
